ABOUT HGV SMART IRELAND

HGV Smart Ireland is a free information and support resource for new and recently qualified HGV drivers in Ireland.

Getting your licence is one thing. Finding your feet in the industry is another!

There's an enormous amount to learn, and not everything you need to know is covered during your training. From drivers' hours and tachographs to vehicle safety, different types of haulage and the everyday realities of life on the road, there's always something new to get your head around.

The aim here is simple: to bring useful, practical information together in one place, explain things in plain English and hopefully make those early days behind the wheel a little less daunting.

The guides are written from real experience in driving, transport management and compliance. They're not intended to replace professional training, your employer's procedures or official guidance.

No subscriptions, no charges and no unnecessary jargon. Just information, advice and support from within the industry, for the people working in it.

ABOUT THE FOUNDER-

Christa Dillon is a professional HGV driver, Transport Manager and Co-Director of Kilbeggan Haulage Ltd, with hands-on experience across livestock, refrigerated and general haulage.

Since gaining her HGV licence, Christa has experienced first-hand the difference between learning how to drive a truck and learning how to do the job. Alongside driving, her work in transport management and fleet compliance has given her an understanding of the industry from both sides of the cab — from drivers' hours, tachographs and vehicle compliance to the operational pressures faced by drivers and transport operators every day.

She is a Chartered Member of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CMILT), a Professional Member of the Institute of Supply Chain Management and a member of the Chartered Institute of Highways and Transportation.
Christa has a particular interest in driver development, road safety, compliance and supporting people entering the HGV industry.

Christa created HGV Smart Ireland to help address the knowledge and support gap that can exist between passing the HGV test and beginning a career behind the wheel.

Her aim is simple: to make reliable information easier to understand, share practical knowledge gained from real-world experience, and help new drivers approach their careers with greater confidence and understanding.
